CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT FUND
CLEMSON GRADUATE STUDENTS,

As a new initiative, the Graduate Student Government allocated $7,000.00 per year to the GSG Capital Improvement account to allow for graduate students to submit project proposals for Capital Improvement Projects. Capital improvement projects consist of any physical and tangible investment on any of Clemson University’s campuses (Clemson, Anderson, Greenville, Greenwood, Charleston, North Charleston, and any of our Cooperative Extension offices) that are lasting in nature, aim to improve the quality of the Clemson experience, and benefit all members of the Clemson community. This investment is considered a way for the Graduate student body to provide a gift to the campus and its students, faculty, staff, patrons, visitors, and greater community.

GSG funded projects are CSAW and water bottle refill stations in Cooper library and Hendrix Student Center. Some examples of projects contributed by the Undergraduate Capital Improvement fund have included CAT Bus transit shelters, the Tillman E flat Bell, the entrance sign on Bowman Field, Gantt Circle, Bryan Mall, Cox Plaza, the Scroll of Honor, and restoration of Foucault pendulum.

Dates for the 2017-2018 academic year:

  • Preliminary Hearing - Monday, February 26 at 7:00pm in the GSC - Come pitch your idea!
  • Detailed Hearing - Monday, March 26 at 7:00pm in the GSC - Present a detailed plan!

Submission Process

If you have a capital improvement idea, present it at the preliminary hearing. The GSG finance committee will help you consider what might be necessary to make your idea a reality. *Attend the preliminary hearing regardless of your stage of planning (i.e. anywhere from a passing idea to a detailed plan).

The detailed hearing is intended as a follow-up to hear refined versions of the plans and pitches from the preliminary hearing and to discuss projects' timelines. Presenters attending only the detailed hearing should contact gsgfinance@clemson in advance of attendance.

After the detailed hearing, the GSG finance committee will recommend feasible projects to be presented to the Clemson GSG Senate. The Senate will discuss feasible ideas and set measurable benchmarks for success; project funding will be contingent on these benchmarks (e.g. a progress report by a certain date).

Submission Guidelines
For Graduate students interested in submitting proposals, we ask that you provide us with the following requirements:

  • List of individuals involved and their contact information
  • Explanation of how the project will benefit Clemson University
